William Goode’s Journal – Ronnie Lanes Mobile Studio

This week I get back to the mobile theme, similiar to my Rolling Stones Mobile studio of the week feature here.

Ronnie Lanes Mobile studio, also known as LMS was started by him in 1972. It was a 16 track facility and all within an Airstream trailer. The mixing console was a Helios with Revox and Studer tape machines. Monitoring was through Tannoys. The studio is still being used.

Artists who used Ronnie Lanes studio according to Wikipedia were:

What a great idea.

This is information from the Lighthouse95 website. Photos courtesy of the  Lighthouse95 website.

The boat that really does rock!
London’s famous Miloco studios have joined forces with engineer Ben Phillips to launch the very special Lightship95, a recording studio on a ship permanently moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, East London.
The studio is situated in the hull of the boat which used to house the massive diesel engine.

This studio has everything, great recording facilities, backline and guitars, saloon/rec room, a galley kitchen, outside deck for sunny days (being London they might be few and far between) and a view of the London Skyline.

For more information on the studio go to:

An hour or so south of Dallas-Fort Worth near Waco Texas lies Brian Konzelman’s Ranch Studios.

To quote the studios site:

Hidden deep in the woods along the quiet bank of Texas’ Brazos River, the relaxed and quiet rural atmosphere and rustic surroundings provide a pleasant change from the typical high-pressure recording environment of many other recording studios. A private world-class Neve, SSL, API, Manley, Mytek, Langevin, TC-M6000, Massenberg, Neumann equipped facility set in creative, friendly surroundings.

Sounds great, maybe one day…

Konk Studios was set up by the UK group The Kinks in 1971 in Hornsey not far from Muswell Hill, famous Kinks territory.

Apart from The Kinks artists who have recorded there include The Kooks, BlurElvis CostelloSteve Winwood, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Tears for Fears, The Cure, Teardrop Explodes, The Bee Gees and many more.

The English Indie rock group The Kooks recorded their album Konk at the studios. The album reached no 1 in the UK charts.

Ray Davies thought about selling the studio in 2010 but in 2011 he said he had another album to do. We’ll find out I guess after the album is completed if the studio will be demolished or not.

It combines ultra-high quality analogue electronics with sophisticated digital control and automation to accommodate the evolving needs of modern audio production. At the same time the studio has been improved by series of new recording packages which enables the musicians to achieve the world-class music productions.
